American Friends Service Committee. Survivors Manual: How to Survive in Solitary Confinement. Newark, NJ, 2012.
This is a manual written by and for people living in control units, which are prisons with the highest level of security. The manual includes letters from people living in control units, poetry written by people in solitary confinement, and information on life in control units and how to resist the use and abuse of solitary confinement. This manual, which was first issued in 1998, is highly important as solitary confinement affects an estimated 100,000 prisoners in federal and state prisons in almost every state.
