2020 South Carolina Act No. 136
H 3967 prohibits the use of restrictive housing in South Carolina correctional facilities, local detention facilities, and prison or work camps for pregnant people and those who are up to 30 days postpartum. Exceptions to this rule are situations where protective custody is requested by the pregnant or postpartum person, or if there is reasonable concern that the person poses a threat to themselves, their fetus, or any other person. This bill was signed into law by the Governor of South Carolina on May 14, 2020.
