At Cheshire Correctional Institute in Connecticut, the T.R.U.E. (truthfulness, respectfulness. Understanding, and elevating) unit reimagines incarceration for young men aged 18-25. The philosophy of the unit draws on lessons from American juvenile justice, international examples, and academic research. The T.R.U.E. unit provides an alternative to managing behavior without using solitary. In this blog post, two young men incarcerated in the T.R.U.E. unit detail their experiences.
